An Introduction

Two years ago I dressed up as Jane Austen, the famous Regency author, for a library program. It sort of took off and now I go to high school as Austen and talk about her books and her life. To get me into character for my next round of schools I'm going to pretend to be Jane Austen as she reads the sequels, updates, and revisions to her six famous novels (Pride & Prejudice, Persuasion, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Sense & Sensibility, and Mansfield Park).

There are 100s of these books out there and I've read many of them. People always want to know which they should read and which they should stay away from. Hopefully someone will find this enjoyable.

  1. So, I'm not sure if it's kosher if 2600 students are supposed to comment on posts, but I just wanted to say... I LOVE JANE AUSTEN (and all the books/fanfiction that people write about her or her novels).

  2. Did you vote for Persuasion as well? It is by far my favorite. I say comment away and hopefully you'll learn something from this blog. I have an entire bookshelf of nothing but Austen rewrites, updates, revisionism. Some are horrible and some are great. Maybe you'll get some ideas.

  3. I love this blog topic! Though it makes me feel a little guilty for not having read more Jane Austen -- I'm more of a Charlotte Bronte girl myself.

  4. Have you ever read the "real" story of Charlotte Bronte and how she killed her sister for her husband? It's really a fiction book, but the author swears it's true. I'll look in my collection for the title. Also have you ever read "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde? A must for Bronte lovers.

It's called "The Crimes of Charlotte Bronte".See link above. There's also "The Secret Adventures of Charlotte Bronte" which I have not read, but looks interesting.

  7. Read them! I have both the UK and US editions (did you know they're different?) and I have them all autographed! Yes, I'm a Fforde ffan. When I was in the UK I had my picture taken at the Swindon train station. I really want to go to the Fforde Ffestival they have sometime.
